  A Marital Settlement Agreement or Separation Agreement is a legal agreement between you and your spouse and will establish your rights and responsibilities regarding your marriage. You can make changes to your agreement at a later date if you and your spouse both agree to the changes in writing and notarize same.

  When you initially execute a Marital Settlement Agreement or Separation Agreement you normally are not required to file the agreement with the court.
